While I find this reading interesting as it continues to reiterate the importance of art in our understanding of the world, I do think it makes some claims that are quite bold and I don’t necessarily agree with. I agree that art and interpreting art can help guide your understanding of the world/cultures particularly those of the past. By visiting a museum you are able to take a time machine to a place that allows you to see how others lived and what was important to them through various forms of symbolism. Of course I love art, however, I don’t think art, especially paintings and sculptures, have had as big of impact on the way I perceive the world as science has. I will say that for me, design is as compelling as science. But I think it’s important to note that art and design are different so my opinion may not align entirely with Goodman.
